European Parliament Exhibition: Carbon Dioxide Removals
A milestone moment for permanent CDR policy
From 17 to 21 March, carbon dioxide removal (CDR) featured prominently at the European Parliament, marking a key milestone for the growing ecosystem of innovators, investors, and policymakers working to scale up climate solutions that go beyond emissions reductions.
The week-long exhibition and series of events reflected growing political recognition that permanent carbon removals—such as direct air capture, biochar, and geological storage—must play a role alongside emissions cuts in achieving Europe’s climate goals.
Emphasising urgency and deployment
Hosted in collaboration with Carbon Gap, the exhibition brought together a wide range of actors to highlight the scale of innovation underway and the urgency of enabling deployment through robust policy, finance, and certification.
The discussions echoed what many in the field already know: to deliver lasting climate impact, Europe must back carbon removals that are durable, measurable, and ready to scale. The upcoming Carbon Removal Certification Framework, alongside revisions to EU climate legislation, offers a critical opportunity to do just that.
At the Negative Emissions Platform, we’re continuing to advocate for clear and science-based rules that support quality removals, unlock investment, and help Member States incorporate CDR into national strategies.
